Updated XPR Torch head yields improved retention

As communicated in December 2022 and February 2023, Hypertherm Associates made changes to XPR® electrodes and torch heads.

The new +++ XPR torch in combination with the longer electrodes have an improved electrical connection to the cathode resulting in better mechanical retention. You will notice that the “feeling” when you remove the electrode is a little different vs the old design (it offers a little more resistance) especially if the operator has coolant on their hands. We have had some end users reach out asking us why the electrode is tighter than it has been in the past. Rest assured, this is normal, and does NOT represent a problem with the torch. The new tool (10080574) will help extract the electrode as needed.

Important notes:
• The new +++ XPR torch head design is backwards compatible with old electrodes.
• The new (longer) XPR electrodes are backwards compatible with all torch heads.

The new tool (10080574) is included in the following kits to make sure that the customer has it if needed:

• Marketing kits (all XPRs)
• 420221 torch head
• 428488 torch kit
• All consumable kits
• Preventive Maintenance electronics kit (because the torch head is included)

We updated the consumable installation and removal guide which you can find here.
We also created a video to support the operators: To watch, click here or find it on YouTube here:
