A new Powermax EtherCAT® interface is now available. This interface includes an all-in-one adapter that digitally connects Powermax plasma systems to the EDGE® Connect CNC. It is compatible with new or existing Powermax45 XP/65/85/105/125 or Powermax65/85/105 SYNC® systems and EDGE Connect CNCs operating on Hypertherm’s Phoenix® software platform, version 10.20 or higher. By simplifying connectivity down to a single device, this interface can better support the digital transformation of your operations and provide valuable intelligence to operators. It includes a faster and simplified machine setup, embedded automatic process control, and provides real-time diagnostic information.
The new interface includes the following features.
• Faster and simplified machine setup. Powermax I/O (input/output), serial communication, and ohmic contact sensing from the torch are plugged directly into the adapter. A single EtherCAT cable is then connected to the EDGE Connect EtherCAT network. A flexible design can accommodate any cabling arrangements for installation inside the drive cabinet or elsewhere on the cutting machine.
• Embedded automatic process control. When using a Powermax SYNC system, the interface will only display compatible processes for the installed Hypertherm cartridge consumable on the EDGE Connect and automatically communicate the correct amperage, cut mode, and gas pressure to the EDGE Connect. This will prevent operators from accidently choosing the wrong settings. The new interface also includes cartridge utilization data for Powermax SYNC systems allowing the operator to see detailed cartridge information such as starts, pilot arc time, transfers, etc. on the CNC. Operators using a non-Powermax SYNC system can see jobs in progress and any potential errors encountered.
• Alerts to real-time diagnostic information. Connected equipment delivers real-time diagnostic information allowing operators to resolve most issues via the EDGE Connect CNC, without returning to the power supply.
