Hypertherm’s Powermax team is warning partners and customers of an issue that can occur when the duty cycle of a Powermax45® XP is regularly exceeded. The team reports that when using the system in extreme environmental conditions, with high heat and humidity, a magnetic failure can occur. When this happens, the system will no longer transfer enough power to the torch. Customers will need to buy a new system as a magnetics replacement kit is not available.
Even customers who used the original Powermax45 in similar conditions could experience this type of failure after switching to a Powermax45 XP. Again, this type of failure is only occurring when overusing the system in extreme environments. The team has not observed this failure in Powermax45 XP systems running within the rated duty cycle and under recommended operating conditions.
Customers regularly exceeding the duty cycle in areas with hot weather and high humidity should strongly consider the use of a Powermax65 or higher amperage system designed to perform in those conditions.
