XPR power supply check valve upgrade

We created an upgrade kit for field installation into XPR170 and XPR300 power supplies relating to the placement of the coolant loop check valve.

The purpose of the check valve is to prevent appreciable coolant loss during consumable change-outs. The current check valve in both the XPR170 and XPR300 is placed before the filter in the coolant loop. This placement enables debris that can get into the coolant loop over time to collect on the check valve sealing surface and prevent full closure. When this happens, coolant may escape from the torch in a steady flow when changing consumables rather than the few drips that may occur if the check valve is functioning properly. Moving the check valve to a position that is after the filter in the coolant loop will significantly reduce this issue. The original placement involved concerns over where the filter was in relationship to the heat exchanger. This issue has been considered in the new kit.

The new check valve kit (P/N 428971) is easy to install in the field. There is an accompanying Field Service Bulletin (P/N 810810) describing the process.

All orders for the existing valve (P/N 006154) will be automatically fulfilled with the new kit under an extended warranty program. If there are end users who are experiencing this issue with unacceptable frequency, we will support a proactive replacement program. Please contact your account manager to coordinate this process.

Further improvements:
• We have replaced the existing 50-micron filament wound filter element with a 25-micron spun propylene filter element for improved filtration of smaller debris. The part number (027005) has not been changed. A new filter is included in the check valve kit.

• The new check valves are pre-screen to prevent appreciable coolant loss when the XPR is placed in an elevated position up to 3.04m (10ft).

All systems currently being produced feature the new design. The new configuration was cut into production on December 12, 2019 beginning with the serial numbers shown below.
