Electric Motor Change to IE3 Efficiency

In the continuing effort by Hypertherm to meet or exceed industry standards, we are excited to announce a change to IE3 premium efficiency electrical motors in all HyPrecision™ waterjet pumps. Previously, electrical motors received the IE3 rating when operated at 60Hz but were reduced to a lower rating when operated at 50Hz. In order to meet European standards, we have updated all motors, whether 50Hz or 60Hz, to be IE3 rated.

As a result of this change, the motor color of some pumps will be changing from grey to either blue or green, based on the intended operating frequency. Motors between 15 and 50 horsepower that are IE3 rated at 60Hz will be blue and those that are IE3 rated at 50Hz will be green. All motors larger than 50 horsepower (60HP – 150HP) will remain grey.

A complete list of previous part numbers and replacement part numbers by pump model can be found in the following section. The motors used in the 60-horsepower size and larger that are intended for 60Hz operation use the existing part number but have a new revision. In all other cases, new part numbers have been created.

If a 50Hz motor needs to be replaced in an existing pump, either the 50Hz or 60Hz motor can be used. These previously sold systems do not need to use the IE3-rated motor for 50Hz operation. The 60Hz motors continue to be dual-rated and can be operated at 50Hz with a decrease in efficiency.

The changeover to these new motors has started with our HyPrecision P-50 systems and will continue to be rolled out to the remaining models as we deplete inventory of the previous stock.
