New anti-counterfeiting raid

Hypertherm is pleased to report another successful anti-counterfeiting raid; this time in Vietnam.

On September 18, 2019 local Vietnamese authorities raided the Vietmec Import Export Equipment Technology Co. (also known as Vinamec Machines) shop in Hanoi. The raid netted dozens of blatant counterfeit Hypertherm Powermax electrodes, nozzles, and shields. Vietnamese authorities acted quickly, finding Vietmec guilty of selling counterfeit goods, issuing a fine, destroying the illicit products, and putting Vietmec on a regular monitor list.

While this raid is not as large as some of Hypertherm’s previous raids on Chinese counterfeit manufactures, it reflects counterfeiters’ new strategy of keeping only small batches of illegal products in inventory in hopes of avoiding notice and enhanced criminal liability. In response, Hypertherm is broadening its anti-counterfeiting efforts outside of China, in countries such as Russia, Turkey, India, Vietnam, and the Netherlands in order to keep these fake goods out of the market and to protect our valued customers.
